CHARACTER INFO
Character: Nimona
Canon: Nimona - After Ballister turns on her
Age: 1000+ but looks 16-17 on the regular
Background Information: This is the plan! I break you out, chaos, destruction, something, something, something, we win.
Personality: It's under the limit without the questions.
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
Upon first impression, one might consider Nimona a regular girl with a penchant for chaos and destruction. She appears to be seeking out a way to become a villain-sidekick, ready to break things and seems too eager to murder. One will definitely see a mischievous streak a mile wide and could even consider her to be a little gremlin here to stir up even more trouble in their lives. It appears as though she's looking for the thrill of a fight and diving deep into being the bad guy. Nimona is persistent and stubborn, often sticking with the person she decided to hound, regardless of whether they are what she initially intended. Upon learning that Ballister had killed the Queen, she sought him out to become his sidekick and stayed with him as he did whatever he could to prove his innocence.
If Nimona hasn't attached herself to someone with the intent to cause some mayhem for them, then she's just there to bring it to them. She enjoys making people confused about whatever she does, or just riling them up. Being playful or making light of a serious situation by turning into different animals and making jokes. One minute they could be talking to a girl, the next a shark. Basically, she just likes to stir up trouble and see what happens, but she is very confident in her own skills and abilities. Often her plans include "something, something, we win" and that usually works out for her. Nimona is not afraid to punch someone in the face or kidnap them if that means accomplishing her goal.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
Deep down, Nimona just wants to be accepted. It was decided a long time ago that anyone seen as different was a "monster", that she was a monster in the eyes of the world. Being able to tear down that idea and make everyone see her for the being she actually is would be the biggest goal. However, on a smaller scale, just one single person can make the world of difference to her. Having that one person who sees her for who she is and not what others believe her to be, that person would earn her loyalty forever. With that one person, she would do whatever it takes to accomplish their goal. If that goal strayed from her intent to be the "villain", then she'll walk that path with them - just as she did with Ballister.
Since that is so hard to come by in her world, Nimona goes around causing trouble, but she never would hurt anyone who wasn't already trained to point a weapon at her. Those are the kind of people that she wants acceptance from, she wants to be friends with them. When Nimona was fighting against a hoard of Knights, it was a young girl that looked upon her in fear who made her stop her destruction. Having that girl pick up a sword and point it at her, that hurt her more than any physical wound. It reminded her too much of Gloreth, who had once been her friend and accepted her abilities until other humans planted the idea that Nimona was a monster in her head. Mostly, Nimona just wants to be herself in a world that doesn't accept who that is.
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
One of her main flaws is her inconsideration of other people. She invades their life whether they like it or not, she takes what she wants, and she does what she wants. For the most part. She tends to do this when other people are stressed or angry. Having been alone for so long and viewed as something to be slain, Nimona has built up walls to protect herself from other people. That means she resorts to every method she can to keep people at arm's length, despite wanting someone to see through all of that. Opening herself up to be vulnerable and truthful with people is scary when she's already been betrayed once before by Gloreth. She has no sense of privacy or personal space, often speaking the things on her mind like, pointing out that cutting off Ballister's arm is not a love language. She's not afraid to crawl into someone's clothes as an animal or comment on how cold it might be in the men's locker room.
Another thing is that sometimes Nimona has suicidal ideation. Once, she tells Ballister that she doesn't know what's scarier: that the entire kingdom wants to run a sword through her heart, or that sometimes she wants to let them. This is especially seen at the end of the movie when Ballister has nearly drawn his sword to point at her after all they've been through. The one person she believed had seen and accepted her just turned against her after all they'd been through. After running away, Nimona sunk deep into her negative emotions and walked through the city to impale herself on the large sword of the Gloreth statue to bring about her death. Just seeing all those people running away from her in her shadow dragon form and attacking her only strengthened this resolve until a miracle save happens.
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Nimona doesn't see herself as people or even a specific gender - Nimona is genderfluid. While she appears mostly as a female, that could easily change just like the wind. It means she has no problem when mimicking anyone within either gender, feeling comfortable in both. As for not considering herself people, this is more that Nimona doesn't see herself like any human and not part of the collective - unless it's one of those dark moments in her head. Ballister comments that most people would be screaming after pulling an arrow out of their leg, and she calmly responds that she's not people. This is due to not feeling like she belonged anywhere, even when trying to make friend with animals, they were either afraid of her or didn't consider her one of them.
Being called a monster by a kid makes her depression kick in, but by Ballister or anyone else, it first makes her angry. It is her first line of defense against most people, to build her wall thicker and higher by challenging them with her fiery rage. Being rejected just for who she is tends to make her react in violent ways, she hates being asked small-minded questions. And Nimona does see being able to shapeshift just part of her. She says she won't die from not shapeshifting - just that she wouldn't be living. Going without changing feels like her insides are itchy, then she shapeshifts and she's free.
Underneath it all, Nimona is kind-hearted and willing to sacrifice herself for people who have always hated and hunted her. While her first instinct is to always fight to protect herself, she is capable of putting aside her own life in order to protect those who cannot protect themselves. This is especially seen at the climax of the movie, when she turns herself into a phoenix and uses her physical body to destroy a fully-loaded canon before it can unleash its lasers upon the kingdom and the people within it.
Abilities & Inventory:
Invulnerability: She is somewhat invulnerable to being hurt, though not entirely. Such as when she stops a moving saw blade without getting nicked at all. She can survive falling through several floors as a whale and not get a scratch, or fighting off entire groups of armed Knights with special weapons. Even in some of her animal forms, especially the larger ones, she can get shot by laser-type attacks and still keep going. After being alive so long and constantly considered a monster, she had taken a lot of hits in her life which has turned up her pain tolerance. So she says she can feel it, it just doesn't hinder her.
Limitations: Nimona isn't completely invulnerable - it seems as if anything she does to herself doesn't appear harmful, but if she's shot with an arrow or blasted with lasers then she does get hurt. A pierce to her heart would kill her for good.
Regeneration: It's not really seen until the very end, but Nimona survived taking out the most powerful weapon in the kingdom - one that would have completely destroyed a large portion of the land, buildings, and the living beings in the area. She flew straight into the fully charged weapon in one of her unique shapeshifting forms and reappeared later on. It isn't seen, but if I pull a little from the comic Nimona, she has regeneration abilities that allows her to create new bodies for herself and heal most wounds. I won't pull entirely from comic canon for everything, just enough to explain her surviving that blast since it never was in the movie.
Limitations: Nimona will play by the death rules in game, so she can die and come back - just not using her own ability.
Immortality: Technically, Nimona is one thousand years old and is still going strong. She is the oldest being ever known in the kingdom. This is also never explained canonly, but if she comes back from fatal injuries, then she can just die over and over again then regenerate. Nimona does appear to have "aged", but she can be whatever age or creature she wants so it's a mystery if she has an older appearance.
Limitations: Not sure this ability is really going to apply, since even if she's here for years, her appearance won't really change. This is more a matter of "sustained appearance" than actual immortality. Next week, Nimona could like seven years old.
Shapeshifting: Nimona can change into any animal in existence. All of her forms are pink in appearance - so no one will mistake her for a regular animal. Her size does vary according to whatever animal she takes, so she could be small like an insect, or big like a whale. In these forms, she has all the natural abilities of an animal - sharp teeth, claws, horns, etc - that can be used as weapons or even their agility. She is not afraid to use them all or act like the animal she is. Most of her animals appear to be limited to regular Earth animals, except for three kinds (listed in Unique). Nimona also has partial shapeshifting, meaning she can produce dragon wings from her back and use them to fly around. If she is an water-based creature, Nimona does not actually need to be in water and can even dance as a shark. Of course, with the physical body of a sea creature, she can also spend large amounts of time in the water.
Limitations: All of her animals will meet the size requirement. Her very large whale will be smol and cute compared to its normal size. Miniature versions of the big ones.
Unique Shapeshifting: In addition to being able to shapeshift into various Earth animals, Nimona has a few special ones. The first is that she can transform into anyone. She only needs to know their appearance to be able to do so. These are near-perfect copies of the person, though she may include a streak of pink hair (it depends on how much she needs to fool someone). She has a young male child version that she utilizes, but it's unclear if she made it up or "borrowed" it. Nimona also transforms into a younger version of herself when feeling vulnerable. So long as its alive, she can be it.
As for non-humans and non-Earth, Nimona can transform into a dragon. Her typical one is large and pink, it resembles the Kwispy cereal dragon in her world. However, Nimona has a special dragon - a shadow dragon. This only happens whenever Nimona is so depressed that she wants to give up. This form is large enough to destroy structures and cause a lot of damage. Her last unique form is that of what appears to be a fiery phoenix - this is the exact opposite form of her shadow dragon. It happens when Nimona feels full of hope and love, when she has something worth fighting for.
Limitations: For shapeshifting into other people, I will make a Permissions post for it so anyone can opt-out of her ever doing it. Then her special animal forms will be sized down to fit the limits.
Fire Breathing/Kwispy Breathing: It doesn't matter what form she's in, Nimona can breath fire. The size of the stream depends on the size of her current form - aka the size of her mouth. When she is the Kwispy dragon, then that fire turns into large Kwispy cereal balls. Probably don't eat those.
Martial Skills: Having been alive for so long, Nimona is skilled in all kinds of combat - this includes beating people up with her fists or using various weapons (think mostly medieval), flails, swords, daggers, axes.

- Red radio headphones
- A couple of daggers

ARMADA SELECTION
Paladins! While Nimona would fit far too easily into the Corsairs, with her thirst for destruction and mayhem, she is - at heart - a good person. She simply wants to be accepted and cared for by those who seek out justice and order, instead of hunted and feared. Nimona would risk her life to save innocent people that would even point a sword in her direction, or let down her guard long enough for them to potentially take it. She is willing to take the side of someone who has been set up to take the fall for an assassination even if her initial plan was to become an evil sidekick. Her heart is loyal and true to those who have gained her trust, and all she wants is for things to change within her blinded city. If she can spread a little mischief and chaos among the Paladins, she won't even complain (too much) about not being a Corsair.
