CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Nimona
Assigned Nickname: The Monster
Age: 1000+ (she normally appears as a teen, but canon point has her as a kid)
Canon: Nimona
Canon point: Post-Ballister betrayal, just before monster time
Character Information: "Go back to the shadows from whence you came"
Personality: CW: suicidal ideation/attempts
► Happiness
This is something Nimona has tried to find for herself and it continues to elude her at times. She's a lonely being, being the only one like her and seen as the monster for it. Nimona has sought it both alone and with others - there are definitely moments where she finds it. First with Gloreth who accepts her for who she is and for the first time in ever, Nimona has a friend. It doesn't last and by the time we see Nimona a thousand years later, she's got a good game face on. She stopped trying to be someone who fits, so she looks to be a villain's sidekick. Normally, she feels very secure in the answer she found about who she is and embraces the chaotic gremlin that she is. Joking, smiling, terrorizing individuals. There is a moment where she finds a buddy to play around in Ballister, and she lives for it - getting to joke and be herself with him.
When she's not being dragged down, Nimona does think she has the best kind of happiness she can find. She enjoys a wide variety of things like music, cooking, drawing, being a terror, and being her best self. For the most part, there's hardly a hint of the darkness that lurks beneath when Nimona is with Ballister. In fact, she's the one drawing him out of his shell and making him loosen up by dragging him into the most ridiculous situations. Nimona is the catalyst of chaos, sometimes for good and other times not so much - she was ready to embrace being a villain's sidekick. It takes a lot to really tear Nimona from the happiness she has found in herself, but the closer a person feels to her - the easier time they have.
► (the) Incident
Truth be told, there are two incidents! The first is the one that created a legend, the story of Gloreth who fought back the shadows. Truth be told, Nimona was Gloreth's friend and it was the fear of others that turned her friend against her. History books paint Nimona as a giant shadow monster and Gloreth a full adult when she stated those words: Go back to the shadows from whence you came, but the truth was they were just children. The sword was wooden and it was the end of what was once Nimona's whole world. Upon the scroll is Nimona's shadow dragon form and child-heart, so perhaps they crossed paths later on for this scene to unfold. It was the beginning of her story as a monster, but not the end.
Nimona's second incident mirrors the first one so closely that she absolutely loses it. For the first time in forever, she placed her trust in someone and thought he saw her and accepted all of her. So when he let fear come between then, it tore her whole world down around her. Every single moment of darkness came for her, rose up in her and that's the current moment she's from now. It means that she'll have a hard time trusting anyone to open up to them and let that darkness fester inside of her, but it's fine - Nimona can be a survivor. At least until she knows that death will be permanent for her, because that's where she lives sometimes.
► Home
This a place that Nimona has been searching for her whole life, or that's how it feels. Animals never accepted her, frightened away. Humans classified her as a monster, meaning she could never be her true self around them. At this point, she's fully aware that home is not a structure where she call her own, it's people. People are what make any place a home and she's never had that. Never had a place where every last bit of her is not only accepted, but loved. Any time Nimona thinks she's found that, it's ripped away from her and left scars upon her heart for it.
For a moment, she had a home with Ballister. It took a bit for him to warm up to her, to ease into what she could and who she was - and he did his best to understand even after spending his whole life training to kill monsters like her. They goofed off, they faced danger together, they encouraged each other to do the right thing by standing up to the Director, they bickered like family, and he protected her in a way no one had before. She looked up to him, would have considered him family and that anywhere he was as home until The Incident. It was why his betrayal hit so hard for her, even a thousand years later. Home is a concept that Nimona hopes to find, but something she also carefully guards to try to protect herself.
► Trust
Trust is huge to Nimona, especially with her track record of people learning that she is so far from normal that's it's frightening. Even though she turned over a "resume" of her shapeshifted into different animals killing soldiers, Nimona waited until they were about to die to reveal the truth to Ballister. Due to the way everyone is raised believing they have to kill monsters, she drew her walls in tight and doesn't instantly trust people she meets. Especially not with the full truth, that she is Gloreth's monster from a thousand years ago.
When Ballister how she got like "this", Nimona tells him a story about a well, a wish and it's absolutely a lie. She's a great storyteller because what even is the full truth at this point in her life? It's a box full of hurt that's going be given back to her worse the most she trusts someone with the truth. Not much is shown of how much truth she might have given to Gloreth, but other than her origin stories she was open enough to him to admit that sometimes she thinks about allowing people to drive a sword through her heart and ending it all. Placing that much trust in someone else is dangerous for Nimona at this point, considering how much she wanted to die. A thousand years of pain and suffering is a lot to take and having her trust broken at this point is devastating to her.
► Monsters
This word has haunted Nimona's life for a thousand years. While not stated explicitly, the kingdom has a whole dedicated force of soldiers, tall walls to protect it, and giant laser canons to go up against monsters - except it seems as if Nimona is one-of-a-kind. If there had been news of other "monsters", she might not have been alone or felt like she needed to team up with a villain because there was someone else out there like her. So to be the only individual who is called that, to have all that hatred and animosity poured on it has left her more than a bit scarred.
She is usually triggered by the word alone, rising to rage and anger when it's said like an animal raising their hackles in fear. Nimona is waiting for the moment when someone points a sword at her, ready to fight back and defend herself. Yet it hits the hardest when little kids and the people she cares about do it. It makes everything feel so much worse and bring up every time she's been called that. When questioned what she is, she angrily announces that she's "Nimona" because that is who she decided to be, who she found in the thousand years of being hunted and hated. She is not a monster, but deep down... maybe she really is and isn't ever going to find someone who understands her.
Roommates?: Alone, she'll hate it - thanks!
Triggers/sensitive topics you'd like to avoid?: Noncon, I can play adjacent to it and interact with characters who have suffered through it, but yeah. Internal parasites. Bugs under the skin, fine! But yeah, deeper than that is a no.
RP Samples: Lucifer | Blitz | Thread for another game juuust in case (since she's stuck in bitty form for her Lab TDM samples, it's a bit old but still within the last year)
Note: If you want her to be in her normal teen appearance upon acceptance, I'm okay with that happening during her little "side quest" note and honestly, would prefer it just to make things easier all around.
